The Beau David Trubridge light offers various new lighting options due to the different effects the finish has on the shade; the black stain limits the amount of light creating a moody environment, whilst the natural option glows lets more light emanate. Similar to our other lights, Beau is used to create an atmosphere and drama, rather than primarily to illuminate a room.

Flax is based on the long slender leaves of the indigenous flax plant or harakeke in Maori. It has long been grown for its valuable fibre. There is a Maori proverb about preserving important resources: If you cut the central stalk of the flax bush, where will the bellbird feed? Maori would only take some of the outer leaves to ensure an ongoing supply.

Hinaki could be classed as David's first exploration into lighting. In 1995 he made a prototype based on fish traps which are called hinaki by Maori, though often the name is used specifically for an eel trap. They were made from woven vines, some in amazingly beautiful forms. He set it aside for many years, only to develop it later (2011) after Coral had gained international attention.

Koura was inspired by woven baskets and also from the curled form of the New Zealand native fresh water shrimp, koura, which is its Maori name. Like our other lights Koura is available in a wide range of sizes from small and intimate to very large and dramatic.

The name Maru is found in both New Zealand Maori and Japanese languages, with references to the cycle of life. Maru will be available for sale in two sizes from early 2019. 

Maru is the newest concept luminaire from our studio and is made from 60 identical components that clip together to create an elliptical form. 

Small size is 1100mm in size.

Large is 1400mm in size.

Snowflake has the same form as our Kina light but is made up from a snowflake shape, creating a repeating geometric hexagonal pattern. The light was designed following a trip David made to Antarctica as a visiting artist.

Sunflower is a wall light shade that can be mounted over an existing wall sconce. It is a sculptural geometric form based on David’s inspection and love of the patterns found in nature.

Ulu is the Tahitian name for the breadfruit tree. The design of the shapes is based on the lovely bold leaves of this tree. It has a delicious large round fruit which David and his family ate as much as they could when they lived there.
